Cape St George Lighthouse

Today’s art show case is of my special place, The Cape St George Lighthouse, or at least what is left of it…

This lighthouse was constructed in 1860 but due to a number of screw ups and shortcuts, the light house was put in the wrong spot. The years it was running were surrounded by one tragic even after another.  Eventually they decommissioned it, built a new lighthouse in a spot that ships could actually see. And what happened to this one? It became target practice for the air force and navy!

Every year as a child we would go away for holiday not far from it.  and one day would be spent exploring the site and surrounding national park.  I have fond memories of spending time with my family here.  I also, for some reason love lighthouses =)
